How Skulkworks handles your data across our website and apps
The short version: Skulkworks apps process your photos and files on your device and do not upload them to Skulkworks. Our Mac apps use direct licensing and update services. FotoFrame for iPad uses Apple's purchase and photo services, and optional photo-location labels send coordinates to Apple's geocoding service. Our website and support communications have separate data handling, described below.
This policy covers skulkworks.dev and our applications, including Riffle, Magpie, RasterFox, VectorFox, ExiFox, InboxFox, FoxSay, and FotoFrame.
App Data and Network Services
Our apps do not require a Skulkworks account, contain advertising, or include third-party usage analytics. Image processing and slideshow rendering happen on your device. Network services depend on the app and distribution channel; they are described below. Website analytics do not run inside FotoFrame.
Mac Purchases and Licensing
Direct Mac downloads. Our current Mac apps are distributed directly from skulkworks.dev. License activation and validation for paid apps (Riffle, Magpie, RasterFox, VectorFox, and InboxFox) are handled by our merchant, Polar.sh. The app contacts Polar.sh to confirm your license key and device activation. This exchange does not include the files you are working on. Polar.sh handles payment and license data under its own privacy policy. ExiFox and FoxSay have no paid license to activate.
Mac update checks use Sparkle to contact our update server for version information. These requests do not upload the documents or images you work on.
Earlier Mac App Store builds. Apple handles purchases made through the Mac App Store. A corresponding direct build can recognize an existing purchase by reading the App Store receipt on your Mac. Apple manages payment details and provides sales and financial reports to Skulkworks under its services and policies.
FotoFrame for iPad
Photos, iCloud and Files
FotoFrame displays photos you authorize through Apple's Photos library, including personal and Shared Albums, or folders you select through Files. Apple's services and your Files providers handle cloud downloads using your device's configuration. FotoFrame does not upload these photos to Skulkworks or provide photo hosting.
FotoFrame reads photo dates and, if enabled, GPS metadata for overlays. It remembers your sources and playback progress and keeps display-sized images in a bounded local cache. Folder access can include images in subfolders. Removing a source from FotoFrame does not delete its originals.
Optional photo-location labels
Photo location is off by default. If you enable it, FotoFrame sends coordinates from the displayed photo to Apple's geocoding service to obtain a town or region. Coordinates are rounded to three decimal places before lookup; they can still identify a small area. FotoFrame does not request the iPad's current location. Apple processes these requests under its Privacy Policy.
Place names and lookup information are cached locally for reuse. FotoFrame does not include photo coordinates or place names in its diagnostic reports. You can turn location labels off in FotoFrame Settings to stop new lookups.
App Store subscriptions
FotoFrame Annual is purchased through Apple's App Store. Apple processes payment, introductory-offer eligibility, renewals, cancellations, refunds and restoration. FotoFrame verifies purchase information supplied by Apple to determine access. Skulkworks does not receive your payment-card details. Apple may provide sales and financial reports to Skulkworks.
Diagnostics and support
FotoFrame keeps bounded local diagnostic records for playback, memory, connection and interruption problems, and may receive system diagnostic information supplied by iPadOS. The app does not automatically upload these records. You can export a report and choose whom to share it with. Review it before sharing. Apple may separately make crash reports or TestFlight feedback available according to your Apple diagnostic-sharing choices and its services.
If you send Skulkworks a support message, diagnostic report or sample photo, we receive the information you choose to include and use it to investigate and respond. Do not send Apple Account passwords or payment details.
Your choices
Change Photos access in iPad Settings, remove selected folders, clear FotoFrame's photo cache, or disable optional location labels. Deleting FotoFrame and its app data removes its local records from the device; it does not delete your original photos or cancel your Apple subscription. Manage or cancel the subscription in Apple Account settings. Apple and third-party providers manage their own records and cloud copies under their policies.
Local Storage and File Access
Our apps store preferences and app state locally, including selected settings, source references, window or playback state, and license or subscription status. Mac apps access files you select or authorize; FotoFrame uses Photos permissions and the Files picker as described above. Local app data is distinct from transaction records held by Apple or Polar.sh and messages you send to support. On Mac, deleting the app alone may leave preferences and support files behind.
Third-Party Components
Our apps include components that process data locally, such as image and SVG libraries. The licensing, update, Apple photo and purchase services, Files providers, and optional geocoding described above have their own network behavior. FotoFrame has no third-party advertising or analytics SDK.
Website Privacy
The Skulkworks website uses one analytics service, HeyCatch, to see which pages are visited, what gets clicked, and where visitors arrive from. It records page views, clicks, and a random visitor identifier, and it sends that to HeyCatch's servers. The site has no accounts, so none of it is tied to a name or an email unless you sign up for the newsletter, in which case we record that a signup happened. There is no advertising tracking, and we do not sell or share the data beyond that service. If you email us, we use your message only to respond to you.
Data Security
Photo and file processing runs on your device. Licensing, purchases, cloud providers, optional geocoding and support messages involve the services described above. Their security and retention practices apply to the information they handle; local processing is not a promise that every network service stores no data.
Children's Privacy
Our apps are general-purpose tools, not services directed to children under 13. FotoFrame has no child accounts or advertising. If you believe a child has sent personal information to Skulkworks through support, contact us so we can review and remove it as appropriate.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as our apps or services change. We will publish the revised policy here and update its date.
