01 / What's New

3

Better traces,
with less cleanup

VectorFox 3 keeps gradients and straight edges, updates the preview as you adjust settings, and gives you SVGs that are easier to edit. Version 3.1 also improves tracing for small images.

N01

Keep smooth gradients

Shaded logos and illustrations can keep their smooth color transitions as SVG gradients. VectorFox supports both linear and radial gradients, so highlights and shadows can stay shaded when you resize the artwork.

  • Adjacent color bands can share a gradient to reduce visible seams
  • Layered export keeps gradients for editing; Cut File converts them to flat colors
N02

Keep straight edges and sharp corners

Buildings, geometric logos, and pixel art need straight lines. VectorFox preserves those edges and corners while still tracing curved outlines.

  • Square windows and pixel steps keep their corners
  • Thin details, such as twigs and whiskers, are better preserved
N03

Adjust settings and see the result

Move a slider and the preview updates while you drag. VectorFox uses a smaller preview during adjustments, then traces the full image when you release the slider.

  • Saving always uses the full-resolution result
  • Each result keeps its tracing settings while the app is open
N04 Pro

Presets for logos, illustration, and AI art

Choose AI Art for generated illustrations, Logo for simpler artwork, or Clean Bands for a poster effect. Balanced is the default and keeps similar colors and soft shadows distinct.

  • A Good, Fair, or Poor rating explains how well an image is likely to trace
  • You can skip unsuitable images in a batch or convert them anyway
N05 Pro

Clean up small images before tracing

Enhance enlarges small images and reduces soft edges and JPEG noise before tracing. It works best on logos, flat illustrations, and AI artwork.

  • Runs locally on images up to 1024 pixels when using 2× Upscale
  • Optional and off by default; best left off for pixel art and photographs
N06

SVGs that are easier to edit

VectorFox groups artwork by color, removes hidden pieces, and simplifies curves. You get fewer paths and control points to work through in your vector editor.

  • The Info tab shows path, node, and color counts
  • Large results include a suggestion for a more suitable preset
N07

Remove the background first

Remove a plain background before tracing, including enclosed gaps such as the middle of a letter O. Use Subject only to isolate the main subject from a more complex background.

N08 Pro

Export for cutters or vector editors

Use Outline for unfilled cutting paths, Cut File for flat colors arranged in layers, or Layered for editing with gradients intact. You can apply the same export profile to a whole batch.

N09

More control over black-and-white traces

Choose whether to trace the dark or light areas, then adjust the threshold. Adaptive threshold helps with unevenly lit scans, and transparent backgrounds stay transparent.

Also in VectorFox 3

  • Choose Off, Auto, or 2× Upscale for small images
  • Reduce image grain with Denoise
  • Existing custom presets carry over to the new controls
  • SVG optimization settings and preview positioning have been corrected

02 / Features

From image
to editable vector

Trace artwork, check the result, and save it as SVG. You can also optimize SVG files you already have.

F01

Keep gradients

Preserve smooth shading with linear and radial SVG gradients. Useful for shaded logos, icons, and illustrations.

F02

Smaller SVG files

Remove unnecessary SVG data and simplify paths to reduce file size. Choose how much optimization to apply.

F03

Compare before you save

View the original and SVG side by side. Zoom and pan together, and see the preview update as you adjust tracing settings.

F04

Presets for your artwork

Start with a preset for logos, AI art, detailed illustrations, or black-and-white cutouts. Enhance can clean up small images before tracing.

F05

Convert a batch

Drop in several images and convert them together. Pro supports unlimited batches and up to eight conversions at once.

F06

Common image formats

Convert PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, HEIC, BMP, and TIFF files to SVG, or drop in an existing SVG to optimize it.

PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, HEIC, BMP, and TIFF. You can also optimize existing SVG files. Logos, icons, stickers, and illustrations usually trace best. Photographs tend to produce complex SVGs with many small pieces, so VectorFox rates each image before conversion.

It depends on how the SVG was made and how much it has already been optimized. VectorFox removes unnecessary data and simplifies paths. Compare the result with the original to choose settings that give you a smaller file without losing the detail you need.

Balanced is the default. AI Art is for generated illustrations, Clean Bands gives shading a poster effect, Logo simplifies logos and icons, Detailed keeps more detail, and Cutout creates a black-and-white stencil. Photo is available under advanced presets. Pro includes all presets and lets you save your own.

Every feature is available for 14 days, with no account or credit card required. After the trial, you can keep converting for free with Balanced and batches of up to three images. There is no limit on the total number of conversions.

Pro adds all tracing and optimization presets, unlimited batches, up to eight conversions at once, custom settings, saved presets, export profiles, filename templates, and alternative app icons. It costs $9.99 once and covers three Macs. You can manage activations in the customer portal.

No. Leave your App Store copy installed, open the downloaded disk image, and run VectorFox from it before moving it to Applications. It reads your App Store purchase and unlocks Pro. You can then request a permanent license key in the app for your other Macs.

The direct download checks for updates and installs them through the app. Homebrew users can update through Homebrew. The Mac App Store version still works, but no longer receives updates.

VectorFox runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs with macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
